5AA - Mornings with Matthew Pantelis
Me and My Pet Aged Care was launched on Nov 7 2023 and Kirstie Wyatt shared it in a Facebook post. The positive response was immediate and overwhelming, with so many people sharing it.
5AA picked up the story and asked Kirstie to chat with Matthew Pantelis the next day about what this strong community response is telling us, and what resources are available to help create change in this area.

'Don't leave me behind?'
Forced separation of older people and their pets in residential aged care homes.
Me and My Pet Aged Care wants to help shine a light on the amazing work that Pet Friendly Aged Care (a program run by Companion Animal Network Australia) has been doing to help more aged care homes learn how they can make this a possible option for residents and pets. They have many resources available here. There are a few fantastic case studies where this is happening successfully in aged care homes across Australia, but we need more.
The Last Post Magazine featured the work of Fiona de Rosa (PhD Candidate, College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Flinders University) and Trish Ennis (CEO, Companion Animal Network Australia - CAN) in this article.

The Last Post Magazine's Greg Ross speaks with Kirstie Wyatt about the positive response to her survey on Me and My Pet Aged Care.
As Kirstie says, she’s not the expert on how change can happen in this area, she is just a passionate daughter who has been trying to navigate this process with her own dad David, and his beloved dog Max. In this journey, she has been introduced to some incredible people and organisations who have been wonderful advocates for this cause.
She is very grateful that her recent campaign has received so much attention because this has meant she can shine some light on the excellent work that these organisations are doing in this space.
In the podcast, Greg and Kirstie chat with two of these women, Fiona de Rosa, PhD student from Flinders University and Trish Ennis, CEO of Companion Animal Network Australia – CAN and their Pet Friendly Aged Care programs, about the work they have done in this area and why it is so vitally important to so many people.
